A little more information on the Arctic Circle Trips:

Arctic Circle Adventure (tour coaches and vans):
This tour departs at 6:30 a.m., driving north. You will get a good look at the Trans Alaska Pipeline, visit the Arctic Circle Trading Post, and travel on the rugged Dalton Highway (if you have a nice car, you will want to take this tour rather than subject your car to the conditions on the Dalton!)

You will have a picnic lunch on the mighty Yukon River before traveling northward. There is a chance to walk out on the arctic tundra, view the Brooks Mountain Range, and finally, cross the arctic Circle to receive an official Arctic Circle Adventure Certificate.

On the return trip, you will be able to enjoy dinner on your own at a restaurant at the Yukon River crossing. (That means dinner is not included in your price. The brochure says the $99 per person price includes lunch, snacks, and beverages. You should arrive back in Fairbanks between 10:30 and 11:30 p.m.

Arctic Circle Fly Drive Adventure:
This trip includes all the above, but starts with a direct flight to Prospect Creek, north of the Arctic Circle. Then you board tour coaches and vans for the one way trip back to Fairbanks. Because of the time saved by flying half the trip, the company can offer two departure times a day - at 5 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. $169 per person includes snacks and beverages only, and you can tack on an optional Yukon river cruise for $20 more. (Those who pass on the cruise buy their own meal at a restaurant).

Arctic Circle Air Adventure:
This tour generally follows the route of the original tour, but is all by air. You will land in Bettles and receive an official Arctic Circle Adventure Certificate. There is an orientation program there, and then your return flight. This is a good choice for one who has very little time, and does not mind missing the "hands on" aspect of walking on the Tundra or stopping to observe wildlife. The cost is $179 and the tour departs Fairbanks at 8 p.m., so that you will be flying back by the light of the Midnight Sun.
