Softball in Fairbanks

Interior Girls Softball Association:

Interior Girls Softball Association is an active softball group for girls 8-18 which offers two types of programs, slow pitch and competitive fat pitch. Games are played at the I.G.S.A. fields located between Denali School and the Armory.

Registration

Registration in 2000 was held in April. Register at Mt. McKinley Bank at 531 3rd. Avenue or Fred Meyer West parking lot. Registration forms available until April 29. $5 late fee for registration after April 29 (including for those who register at tryouts). For more information, call 456-3371 or email tym@gvea.com. 

The Fine Print

A copy of each player's birth certificate must be on file along with a signed registration form prior to playing in any games. They want a copy of the child's birth certificate sent in along with the registration form.

A player may only register for one early season program. But a late season fast pitch program is also available for girls attending Jr. & Sr. High School in the fall, and they may register for one late season program as well as one early season program, assuming the proper softball equipment.

Golden Heart Softball Association

 The Golden Heart Softball Association (GHSA) is a 14 year old not-for-profit organization offering Fairbanks adults the opportunity to play softball. Their season begins in May and they have league play Monday through Friday, with most games taking place at the Hez Ray Softball Complex, located next to the Big Dipper Ice Arena on Lathrop St.

 There are tournaments nearly every weekend through mid-August. See our Sports Calendar for specific events. As of 5/2/00 they had not yet posted their season schedules. They keep hours of 10-6 M-F. at 2121 Lathrop. For more information, call (907) 452-6768.

 GHSA is under the umbrella of the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) nationally and the Alaska Amateur Softball Association (AASA) here in Alaska. GHSA has five divisions of play; men, women, coed, men's masters, and women's masters. To ensure equal competition, the divisions are divided into sub-classes . Fees

A ten dollar player fee discount is given to players registered in more than one league.

Instructions: Player contracts and team forms must be completed in full. A representative of each team must collect forms and fees and submit a Single check or money order along with the completed forms to the softball office by 6:00 pm on the due date ( see their webpage). They do not accept individual payment of players fees.
