Tanana Valley State Fair

The theme for 2011 is "80 years of Northern Nights and Midway Lights” The dates will be August 5 through August 13, 2011.

Tanana Valley Fair FerriswheelThe Tanana Valley Fair grounds are located at College Road and Aurora Drive. Parking is free, but get there early for a spot (most of the buildings open at noon). Alaska's oldest fair features giant cabbages, competitive exhibits,  talent search, baby show, demonstrations, arts & crafts, carnival rides, contests, fireworks and other entertainment. There is a senior luncheon/old timers lunch one day of the fair. There is usually a 4H and FFA Market Livestock Project Auction in the show ring and Delta barn. We are not sure yet what day "Kid's Day" will be this year. One day is devoted to collecting non perishables for the Fairbanks Food Bank, and they have a booth throughout the fair where they will take donations.

The Exhibitor Guide (a how-to guide for exhibiting) is available online.  Season tickets usually go on sale in July. In 2001 there was quite a bit of controversy as they dropped the Family Season Pass, a particular hardship for children who entered animals they had to feed and clean twice daily. Their web site, however, gets better every year. TVSFA opens the first Friday in August every year, and runs for 9 days, always closing on a Saturday night. You can calculate out years in advance with this formula.

The following is information from the 2010 fair, so you have an idea of what to expect this year. To get updated information when it becomes available, you can try checking the official Tanana Valley State Fair website.
