Fiddlers Acoustic Adventures maintains an active schedule of musical events. Rather than trying to keep up with their weekly announcements, here is a link to their website. 10th Planet, a recording facility, has its own site: http://www.10thplanet.com/ Fairbanks Community Band All rehearsals are 7-9 pm in the Old Train Depot (adjacent to the News-Miner building), across Phillips Field Rd from the (closed but prominent) Ace Hardware/OK Lumber building. The jazz band meets Wednesdays. The jazz band leader is Brian Cade. The concert band meets Thursdays. The director is Wendy Ward. Assistant director is Jim Fisher. They have our own listing of events on their website. For more information visit their web site at http://www.communityband.org .The Greatland Sounds Chapter of S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A., a men's barbershop chorus, meets every Tuesday evening at 7 at the Church of Christ Northern Lights, 645 11th Ave. All men who enjoy singing are welcome to participate. Northern Lights Council of Dancers represents square, round and folk dancers in the interior. Our link leads to their very active dance calendar. Many of their member clubs dance at the Farthest North Square and Round Dance Center, located in Pioneer Park. They have their own calendar. The following clubs dance there:

No cover charge. 8th Annual Starlight Ball (2/7/06) Ballroom Dance Club of Fairbanks, 8:00 p.m. at the Chena River Convention Center. This is the biggest ballroom extravaganza of the year in Fairbanks. Dress up (semi- or formal) and dance the night away to the live dance sounds of the "Alaska Jazz" band, featuring Dave Schlesinger on keyboard. There will be plenty of swing, foxtrot, and Latin dance tunes. Recorded ballroom and swing dance music will be played before the band starts, during breaks and after they finish their part of the night. Hors d'oeuvres and no-host bar. Singles welcome. This celebration of winter has been transferred from the Chamber of Commerce to Ice Alaska, and now appears to encompass anything at all that happens in March. (907) 452-1105. Winter festival in Nenana, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Civic Center. Official start of Alaska's largest guessing game. Contests, games and entertainment for the entire family. Tickets sell for $2.50 apiece. Sales start with the tripod weekend, and they stop selling them April 5, 2009 at midnight. The Tanana River officially went out on April 27, 2007 at 3:47 P.M. Alaska Standard Time. The jackpot was $303,272.00, but 77 people shared that prize. As of Feb. 19, their website still had only the Tripod Weekend Schedule of Events for 2008, which was from Feb 29-March 2, 2008. Chatanika Days (3/14, 15/09) Winter festival with outhouse races and snowmachine tug-of-war in the historic gold mining town of Chatanika, 30 miles north-east of Fairbanks.
